Weekly Wrap Up

Even though our Station Manager was on vacation, and we had some beautiful weather, we managed to behave ourselves this week and get a lot done. Though no shows ended up being recorded in our studio, a lot of field equipment was signed out and ten programs were worked on in our editing suites. In addition, the staff produced a news story for our website each day. Looking forward to next week, we thought we'd highlight a couple of events for you:

On Monday night, the Reggae group "Rebelle" will be in our studio for a live performance on "Valley Homegrown". The show is free and open to the public so come on down and have a good time. ("Valley Homegrown" goes live on Cable Channel 15 at 7pm so we recommend getting there around 6:45pm.)

At 6pm on Tuesday night, the Greenfield Town Council will be holding a short, special, meeting at the Greenfield Police Department. This meeting is being held in order to do a First Reading on the order to appropriate $175,000 for the repair of the Greenfield Middle School Roof.

It's Been One of Those Weeks...

So, we have good news and we have bad news. The good news is that we now have two presentations available online dealing with the Stretch Code as it relates to the Town of Greenfield becoming a greener community (in the "Local Government" category in our Video on Demand player) and we were able to air most of last night's Greenfield School Committee Meeting live (after not being able to go live with Tuesday night's Stretch Code workshop). The bad news is that, due to several technical glitches, the March 9th Stretch Code presentation is missing its first fifteen minutes and we may not be able to air the school committee meeting this weekend or get it online until next week. The meeting's video file was corrupted and it will take some time to figure out how much of it we can save. We are working hard on it and taking steps to ensure that future shoots go more smoothly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we will stop feeding the gremlins after midnight.

Our VOD Service is Easier to Use!

You can now scan through programs on our website by using the "Chapters" function in our Video on Demand player. Any shows that are longer than one hour, that were uploaded after December 16th, 2009, have chapter markers every fifteen minutes. We hope this will enhance your viewing experience. Town Meetings From This Week

***All the meetings are now up.***

Due to the number, length, and variety of locations involved with the productions of town meetings this week it is taking us a little longer than normal to get them all up on our Video on Demand service. The School Committee Meeting from November 12th is up in its entirety. The School Committee Meeting from November 17th and the Town Council Meetings from November 18th & 19th are in the process of being converted (we have to split them up into hour long segments in order to fit) and parts of them will be up by midday on Monday. We hope to have them all up by Tuesday. Thanks for your patience and understanding in this matter.

The New Control Room Is Almost Here!

Our TV studio and control room will be closed from 1:30PM on Monday, August 31st to 1:30PM on Wenesday, September 2nd so that Scott & Jal can install all of our new equipment. The rest of our office and facilities, including WMCB, will be open normal hours next week. "Fat Guys on Film" & "Local Bias" will be the first two shows to record after the upgrade. They have graciously agreed to be guinea pigs, *ahem*, I mean they are eagerly looking forward to testing out our new cameras and switcher. GCTV staff will be on hand for all productions in the near future to train you and you can always catch us with a question or two via phone or email. In addition, as part of this upgrade the background music on our televised bulletin board will now be a real time feed from WMCB. Keep checking this blog for more details about what this upgrade will allow you to do when you record your shows in our studio.

In other news, "Fat Guys on Film" has been added to our Video On Demand offerings. You can actually see tonight's episode now online BEFORE it airs on GCTV at 8PM.

Video On Demand

We are still experiencing technical difficulties with our new Video On Demand (VOD) service and we apologize for any inconvenience these difficulties may have caused. Late last week the servers crashed at the company that supplies this service to us and they lost all of our files. We were able to re-upload four of the most recent videos before the service was interrupted again. We are working hard to restore full VOD capability and will be getting additional content up as soon as we can. In addition, the company assures us that they have taken measures to ensure this does not happen in the future.

So, you only caught part of Drew Hutchison's interview with Governor Deval Patrick on "Local Bias"? Did you miss last week's Ways & Means meeting? Perhaps you decided to enjoy the beautiful weather outside instead of attending the latest School Committee meeting? Well, that doesn't have to mean that you aren't informed.
